Item description from seller

Mint green paper wraps, string-bound, with black border and lettering; 82 pp. This original first edition, printed in South Carolina, was written by Thornwell, a Southern Presbyterian minister who supported secession and slavery and believed that, "In one word, the world is the battleground--Christianity and atheism the combatants; and the progress of humanity the stake" in the conflict between the North and the South. This particular booklet was mailed to John MacLean, D.D., who was the President of Princeton University (as Thornwell was President of the College of South Carolina). Nice, tight, clean interior but for old damp staining on some pages; front cover a bit stained and with a faint ex-lib. stamp from Princeton University; back cover missing a piece.
