This volume makes an attempt to focus on the stages of state formation in the Eastern Region of India/South Asia from the earliest times to 1971 when Bangladesh emerged as an independent and sovereign state. As juristic person a state becomes functional through its legal framework language mode of instructions and system of governance determining rights and duties of citizens as well as recognising cognition for religious faith. Both as a concept and reality the state and its activities are however moulded and re moulded in a cultural milieu as much as it itself takes up the role to influence the cultural tenets. In this volume these issues have been carefully delineated with a view to furnishing to the readers a picture of the gloaming interactions of culture economy environment and the ruling personages.
