Sir Horace Lamb (1849-1934) was an English mathematician particularly known for his contributions to mathematical physics. This is the second edition of his work Statics, which was originally published in 1912. The work was based on lectures of his, with some modifications, and was intended for students with some basic knowledge of mechanics who were at the point when they could start applying calculus. This copy is in good condition. The front fly leaf has become detached, but is still present, and has the name of a previous owner written on it in pen. The front hinge is also slightly cracked. There is some wear to the fabric covering the boards, particularly at the corners, and along the spine. There are some slight paint marks in white on the cover as well.
