England, 1929

Young naval officer Paul Dexter is thinking about how to spend his shore leave following the successful return of his ship Mistletoe to home waters from the China seas.

Reports of his adventures have caught the attention of the ambitious Admiral Fitz-Bolsover. He wants him on his staff in Malta where he is taking over as Commander-in-Chief of the Mediterranean Fleet.
