As one of the great statisticians of the century, Sir Maurice Kendall worked in areas covering an extraordinary range from intricate theory to detailed application. This memorial selection concentrates on a number of his less well known papers. They fall into four general groups. The next group consists of six papers on the theory of symmetric functions of sample observations.
