Staying Safe: Prison Fellowship's Guide to Crime Prevention

Based on Prison Fellowship's 15 years of experience with inmates and their families, this book demystfies crime and highlights crime prevention programs that work. Best of all, many of the ideas presented in this book go well beyond crime prevention: they contribute to stronger families, better neighborhoods, and more responsive communities.

Here's a crime-prevention guide loaded with advice from criminals. Developed by Prison Fellowship, an organization Charles Colson helped found in 1976, this book offers counsel on crime prevention through block parties, literacy programs, parent-training, and prayer. While there are many suggestions for avoiding being a victim and for responses if crime does hit, there is also a major focus on reforming the prison system into something that will educate and illuminate the lives of inmates, thereby striking at the root causes of crime. It's certainly worth a try; with the prison population nearing 900,000, every alternative must be considered. Denise Perry Donavin
