Stefan Reiterer: Inflection Point

Der österreichische Künstler Stefan Reiterer (geb. 1988, lebt in Wien) überführt digitale Landkarten und Satellitenaufnahmen mittels abstrakter Malerei in den analogen physischen Raum. Er manipuliert Daten von u.a. Google Earth und NASA und verwandelt sie in illusorische Topologien und Pseudo-Kartographien, um unsere Wahrnehmung herauszufordern. Andrea Kopranovic schreibt über Reiterer’s gemalte Leere als Lochfraß und Projektionsfläche “für Glitches, schwarze Löcher und Abgründe” und sinnbildlich für potentielle “Deutungen, Anreicherungen und noch nicht gedachte Möglichkeitsräume.” Dieses reich bebilderte Buch dokumentiert Reiterers Ausstellung aus dem Jahr 2025 im Museum gegenstandsfreier Kunst in Otterndorf.

The Austrian artist Stefan Reiterer (born 1988, lives in Vienna) transfers digital maps and satellite images into analog physical space through abstract painting. He manipulates data from sources such as Google Earth or NASA, transforming them into illusory topologies and pseudo-cartographies to challenge our perception. What is recognized, discovered, rejected? Where is the viewer’s location? Andrea Kopranovic writes of Reiterer's painted emptiness as a “pitting” and projection surface "for glitches, black holes, and abysses" and a metaphor for potential "interpretations, enrichments, and yet unimagined spaces of possibility." This richly illustrated book documents Reiterer's 2025 exhibition at the Museum Gegenstandsfreier Kunst in Otterndorf.

Clemens J. Setz (born 1982, Graz, Austria) is an Austrian writer and translator. He publishes novels, short stories, poetry and plays, and is regarded as one of the most important voices in contemporary German-language literature. Setz lives and works in Vienna. Stefan Reiterer (born 1988, Austria) is a Vienna-based artist who transforms digital data into striking paintings, sculptures, and installations. His work explores how virtual and physical realities intersect, challenging the way we perceive space, memory, and the everyday. Andrea Kopranovic (born 1991) is a Vienna-based curator and writer. Since 2022 she works as Assistant Curator for Contemporary Art at Belvedere 21 in Vienna. Wilko Austermann (born 1990, Steinheim, Germany) studied art history in Dü sseldorf and Rome. Since 2014, he has curated contemporary art projects and exhibitions, focusing on current issues and the influence of digital media on artistic production.
