This acclaimed picture book, a unique twist on the 'ugly duckling' tale, chronicles a baby fruit bat's journey to find her place. After accidentally separating from her mother, Stellaluna lands in a bird nest, where she's welcomed but must adapt to bird ways. She struggles to fit in, preferring night flights and upside-down naps. One day, a surprised bat finds Stellaluna sleeping upright and reunites her with her mother. When the bird family visits the bats, both sides learn that being different isn't easy, but friendship transcends differences. 'How can we be so different and feel so much alike?' they ponder, with Stellaluna summing it up: 'But we're friends. And that's a fact.'
