Stencilling: A Practical & Inspirational Guide to Decorative Ideas for Interiors, Furnishings, Clothing, Stationary & More

Demonstrates how to stencil objects, walls, and rooms, offers advice on color selection, and shows how to make stencils

This brief introduction to the craft of stenciling has much to recommend it. That it was first published in Australia (hence the spelling "stencilling") presents no problems for the reader, as the author recommends materials generally available in this country. Her step-by-step approach to mastering the fundamentals is easy to follow and clearly illustrated. She guides the novice from practicing on paper with purchased stencils to creating his/her own finished designs, working with such diverse media as wood, fabric, metal, and glass. Instead of a selection of "canned " projects, Malone suggests possibilities, describes sources of inspiration, and provides a great number of simple stencil designs that the reader can mix and match to arrive at unique projects. Recommended for public libraries as an inexpensive introduction suitable for both young people and adults.
