The book was first published on October 13, 1972. Fine in a Near Fine+ Dust Jacket. The Text Block is clean, white, tight, straight and square with no markings of any kind. The Binding is full gray cloth, color uniform throughout, with black squares to the front board, bright black title, etc., to the spine, unmarked white endpapers, and all corners square and sharp. The Dust Jacket is bright, colors uniform throughout, and intact with a 1/4" tear at the top of the front fold discreetly closed from behind with archival pH neutral materials. Variously described as a psychological thriller, a satire, science fiction, this novel portrays male fears of women's liberation to the extent that they would prefer to turn women into submissive robots living as passive suburban housewives. The book was the basis for the 1975 film starring Katherine Ross, Paula Prentiss, Tina Louise and Patrick O'Neal, as well as the 2004 remake starring Nicole Kidman, Matthew Broderick, Bette Midler, and Christopher Walken. Novelist and playwright Ira Levin (1929-2007) was a native New Yorker whose books include A Kiss Before Dying, Rosemary's Baby, This Perfect Day, The Stepford Wives, The Boys from Brazil, Sliver, and Son of Rosemary. His plays include No Time for Sergeants, Critic's Choice, and the longest-running thriller in Broadway history, Deathtrap. An alumnus of New York University, Levin also wrote the lyrics of the Barbra Streisand classic "He Touched Me," and was the recipient of three Edgar Allan Poe Awards from the Mystery Writers of America (including 2003's 'Grand Master'), as well as the Horror Writers Association's Bram Stoker Award for lifetime achievement.
