Lessons Include: Leading A Small Group Meeting; Small Group Dynamics; Sharing Leadership In A Small Group; A Care List; Ministry By Phone; Effective Listening; Prayer Ministry; Providing Care; Hospital Visitation; Love In Action; Introducing People to Jesus Christ; and Helping New Christians Grow.
The apprentice begins by completing the Self-Evaluation. This helps them assess their level of competence and confidence in the twelve ministry skills. Then, using the Progress Checklist, they determine in what order they wish to complete the ministry skill lessons.
The second goal is to create an equipper, not just Christian worker. Ultimately, we want the apprentice to be empowered and encouraged to become the equipper of someone else.
Pastor Durey been a committed discipler, equipper and mentor in three local churches for over two decades. In 1990, he joined Pastor Dale Galloway to serve as a Geographic District Pastor at New Hope Community Church in Portland, Oregon, a church recognized for its small groups and Lay Pastors.
David has been exposed to some of the finest discipling, equipping and mentoring strategies in the church today. He received his doctorate as a Beeson Fellow at Asbury Theological Seminary in Wilmore, Kentucky, and his Master of Divinity from the International School of Theology established by Bill Bright, founder of Campus Crusade for Christ. He believes that leadership development and accelerated spiritual growth are natural by-products of one-to-one discipling, equipping and mentoring relationships.
