Grade 3-5 - In this second adventure, the cat counterspy, Mr. Stink, is still tracking down the murderer of his former human, and the six-toed white Persian, Macavity, is his prime suspect. While on the trail of the killer, Mr. Stink becomes involved in discovering who is stealing expensive bags of cat chow from the Parkside Pet Foods Store, owned by his new family. In scenes that will cause chuckles, he leaps onto a garbage truck to catch a ride, and he gets help from two mice who high-five one another and from a feisty dog who sends and retrieves messages via the Bark Network. The feline puts together clues to conclude that Macavity and his gang are the culprits here as well. Isabella, a lovely orange-furred cat, is frequently Mr. Stink's rescuer just as his nemesis is ready to pounce. Drawings in tones ranging from creamy white and pearl gray to ebony embellish the mystery and provide a realistic atmosphere that invites young readers into this striped sleuth's adventures. With comical intrigue, a cliff-hanger ending, and plot twists, this novel will appeal to young readers of detective stories, and it's an extra treat for "Geronimo Stilton" fans. - James K.
