Marcus Aurelius ran the most powerful empire in the ancient world. He also struggled to get out of bed in the morning, lost his temper more often than he liked, and spent his evenings writing private reminders to himself about how to be a better human being. Those reminders survived. We call them Meditations.

His friend Seneca — brilliant, wealthy, occasionally hypocritical, and entirely honest about it — spent his final years writing letters to a friend about how not to waste your life. And Epictetus, who started life as a slave and ended it as the most sought-after philosopher in Rome, built an entire system of inner freedom from inside a life he could not externally control.

Together, they answered the one question that has never gone out of fashion: How does a person actually live well?

The Stoic Year brings their answers to your calendar.

One maxim per week. Fifty-two weeks. A full year of the most serious, most practical, most rigorously tested philosophy ever developed — presented with the depth it deserves and the directness the Stoics always preferred.

Each week gives you:

• An original Stoic maxim in its full historical and philosophical context
• A deep, honest commentary that doesn't treat you like a beginner
• One concrete weekly practice — specific, demanding, and genuinely useful
• Three reflection questions designed to make you slightly uncomfortable

This is not a book of inspirational quotes.

The Stoics would have found inspirational quotes mildly embarrassing. What they believed in was practice: the daily, unglamorous, rewarding discipline of actually applying what you understand to the life you are living right now.

Over the course of fifty-two weeks, you will work through the full architecture of Stoic philosophy:

• Weeks 1–13: Building the inner citadel — control, attention, self-mastery, the art of acceptance
• Weeks 14–26: The obstacle is the way — adversity, fate, voluntary discomfort, and why your life is already long enough
