There is a tiny bent corner to the pasted down portrait label on the slipcase.; This is the definitive biography of Robinson Jeffers, an influential poet of narrative, free verse, and epic styles. Philosophically and politically controversial in some periods, he wrote from the perspective of "inhumanism" that emphasized the value and workings of nature as more significant than humankind. The Preface to this 2007 edition by Alexis A. Vardamis of The Tor House Foundation. Also reprints the original 1966 Preface by biographer Melba Berry Bennett. Forward by literary critic, bibliographer, and Jeffers scholar Lawrence Clark Powell. Ends with a biographical essay about Melba Berry Bennett. Written in 12 chapters and includes a checklist of Jeffers' publications. Contains occasional cut and plate monochrome photographs of Jeffers, his family, and places significant in his life. This edition reprints the original book design by fine printer Ward Richie. This large 8vo book is 10 1/4" x 8 1/2" and has 225 pp. Printed on fine paper.
