A scarce children s book by Anna Laetitia Barbauld (1743-1825) a prominent English poet, essayist, literary critic, editor, and author of children's literature. A "woman of letters" who published in multiple genres, Barbauld had a successful writing career that spanned more than half a century. Barbauld was the first author to create large print and wide margins in her children s literature, paving the way for future writers. She was a true radical and was notably friend with Joseph Priestly. She wrote pamphlets on ending the British slave trade and women s suffrage. She was considered too radical and essentially shunned when she wrote the poem 1811 that criticized France and Napoleon. This book features charming woodcuts of Early Republic scenes. Scarce.
