Reviews
YA?Delightful stories, written over 100 years ago, about life on Old Squire's farm down east in Maine. They center around six cousins, orphaned by the Civil War, who live there with their grandparents. These 36 selections, penned by the popular American storyteller, provide a nostalgic picture of farm life as they recount county fairs, Fourth of July celebrations, a ram who chased away a thief, a little tinkering with Grandmother's elderberry wine, and pranks at the swimming hole. Values of hard work, individual responsibility, and honesty are inherent in the daily lives of the characters. As in stories by Mark Twain, reading about good times in days past are a wonderful diversion.?Becky Burgee, Langley High School, McLean, VA
