They center around six cousins, orphaned by the Civil War, who live there with their grandparents. These 36 selections, penned by the popular American storyteller, provide a nostalgic picture of farm life as they recount county fairs, Fourth of July celebrations, a ram who chased away a thief, a little tinkering with Grandmother's elderberry wine, and pranks at the swimming hole.
