About this Item
As lieutenant Churchill fought in the Malakand area of Afghanistan commanding a picket within the Malakand Field Force that was commanded by Maj-General Blood, this is his account of its actions. First published in March 1898 the book quickly went through several editions and reprints, (partly due to the haste in which Churchill's uncle pushed through publishing without full review of Churchill leaving inaccuracies and spelling errors, largely corrected in this 'new', fourth edition, the Silver Library edition. Includes 6*maps (two coloured and folding) and a b/w frontis. xvii+337pp. Brown cloth boards with gilt border. Gilt lettering and publishers' vignette to spine. Light shelf-wear to surface and extremities of boards (see images). Corners a little bumped. Toning to margins of most pages. All maps are present, however there is a 5.5cm closed tear to the sketch map opposite p193. (Woods A1(ba1),Cohen A1.3.a, Langworth p.20). Seller Inventory # A5025
