Oblong 8vo. 37pp. of text interleaved with 60 full-page reproductions of paintings in vibrant colors by Ernst Vollbehr. Quarter cloth over illustrated paper-covered boards protected by modern mylar. Rare work of artistic views showing the construction of Hitler's Autobahn. All publications that followed were photographic works, this being the only one with paintings. "Sechzig farbige Bilder auf Veranlassung des Generalinspektors für das Deutsche Straßenwesen geschaffen von Ernst Vollbehr. Mit einem Geleitwort des Generalinspektors für das Deutsche Straßenwesen." Age toning on back board. Slight rubbing to parts of binding. Minor creasing to last 2 pages. Text in German, Gothic script. Tight copy in very good condition. Scarce. Ernst Vollbehr (1876-1964), was the official artist of the Reichs-Autobahnen. Before 1933, Vollbehr was active as a traveling artist painting landscapes of countries such as Brazil, German West-Africa, India, Hawaii and others. In 1905 he worked for the well-known German artistic magazine 'Jugend'. During W.W.I he produced some 1200 war related paintings and watercolors which were published in 1915. Seller Inventory # 20248
