Reviews
In Straight White American Male: A Politically Incorrect Illustrated Survival Guide, father-and-son team James and Taylor Overbey, writer and cartoonist, respectively, comment on the many absurd effects of political correctness on the English language, or "Manglish," as they call it. Satirizing the entire process, they suggest "Monspeak" for English (with "mon" as the generic for both man and woman), "hupe" for human and, of course, the eponymous SWAM. The cartoons are apt, but the humor is often strained and tinged with hostility toward homosexuals and women. (Marina [5475 Blue Cloud Lane, Westerville, Ohio 43081], $21.95 240p ISBN 0-9651198-0-7)
