Dr Jemma Anderson is a respected Australian scientist. The idea of alien visitation, UFOs and time travel are, to her, a fanciful myth. As she hurtles through time and space in a spaceship the size of a city block, she is forced to re-evaluate.

Rejected by Earth, she learns that she was born on another planet, Anders Major. With nowhere to go, she accepts the protection of the alien Inter-Planetary League, who are about to embark on a mission to travel forward in time.

She arrives on Earth in the year 2099 and is shocked at the devastation caused by decades of war. As they set about to help develop the settlements, she discovers that her mortal enemy Fredrick Pritchard has somehow followed and has formed an alliance with unfriendly aliens from the planet Ailazant, known as Zants.

Pritchard and the Zants abduct Jemma's husband, Sean Bellamy. With IPL help, she travels across the universe to rescue him, but when their spaceship is stolen, they are stranded on the planet Condona, millions of light years from Earth.
