There's A Strategy For That!

Why do some students thrive while others struggle with organization, focus, and follow-through? The answer lies in executive functioning—the set of brain-based skills that helps us plan, initiate, and complete tasks.

In There’s a Strategy for That!, educator and learning specialist Mary Miele introduces the Integrated Executive Functioning (IEF) Model, a research-based, practical, and adaptable framework designed to strengthen executive functioning in students from grade four through adulthood.

This book is a guide for parents, teachers, tutors, and executive function coaches who want to:

• Build trust and rapport with students to foster motivation

• Assess strengths and challenges to create personalized learning profiles

• Teach the brain about executive functioning in clear, accessible ways

• Develop tailored strategies for organization, planning, focus, working memory, and flexibility

• Ensure students rehearse and recall strategies until they become second nature

Through relatable student stories, step-by-step teaching routines, and ready-to-use strategies—such as visualization, the Pomodoro method, and Quick Outlines—Miele shows how anyone can transform executive functioning struggles into strengths.

Whether it’s forgotten homework, missed deadlines, or procrastination, this book offers a simple but powerful truth: there’s always a strategy for that.
