Strife of Systems and Productive Duality: an Essay in Philosophy

Strife Of Systems And Productive Duality: An Essay In Philosophy — Wilmon Henry Sheldon. This book offers a comprehensive survey of major philosophical syntheses and the persistent conflict between external relations and internal relations in knowledge, aiming to move beyond patchwork compromises toward a unified, actionable framework. It contrasts Kant's practical synthesis, which anchors moral certainty yet leaves theoretical grounding incomplete, with Thomism, which is presented as the most mature integration of revelation and reason though still critiqued for gaps in ontological proofs and the limits of potency. The text then maps rival streams—Great Objectivism's three subtypes (Platonic realism, pragmatism, intuitionism) and the problem of grounding mind in objective terms—before outlining a proposed remedy: a higher synthesis based on sameness-in-difference that reconciles mind and world, and internal and external relations. Across chapters, the author examines how these debates affect education, democracy, and religion, and foreshadows a broader program of universal guidance grounded in dual but productive dynamics rather than exclusive allegiance to any single system. The result is a diagnostic map and a program for a more fertile metaphysics and ethics.
