Strive and Thrive a Tale

Strive And Thrive A Tale by Mary Howitt. Strive and Thrive follows a English family through hardship, moral testing, and eventual renewal. The opening scenes of idle gossip at a breakfast table reveal how prejudice and curiosity about poverty color neighbours’ judgments. The story then travels back nearly two decades to the young Walsingham, a gifted but indolent heir who rebels against his uncle’s business expectations. His pursuit of pleasure, pride, and neglect precipitates a costly rupture and an early marriage to Margaret Hammond. Financial mismanagement and a drift from duty drive the couple from comfortable Highgate living to a frugal watchmaker’s lodgings and, finally, to hardship. Margaret’s steadfast love, the children’s industrious schooling, and Grace’s secret artistic talent illuminate a path from ruin toward resilience. Through patient sacrifice, help from trusted friends, and prudent enterprise, the family rebuilds a modest fortune. The tale celebrates domestic virtue, perseverance, and the belief that true success comes from striving with integrity.
