Structural Transformation and Economic Development in Africa: Opportunities and Challenges

This book provides unique insight into the challenges and opportunities of structural transformation and economic development in Africa. It highlights the vital role played by enterprise, in particular the participation of women in this process, and the importance of supply chains and global value chains. Detailed case studies from across Africa show the range and variety of economic issues faced within the continent. A particular focus is given to infrastructure development, food security, the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, currency crises, entrepreneurship in Africa, microfinance, the circular economy, and corporate social responsibility.

This book offers an applied and policy relevant guide to the structural transformation of African economies at national and local levels. It will be relevant to researchers and policymakers interested in development economics, global supply chains, and international trade.
