Structured Reading

For courses in Fundamentals of Reading and College Reading. The highly regarded, exceptionally effective approach of Structured Reading is grounded in psycholinguistic theory and based on the principle that readers improve their skills not by reading about reading, but rather by guided, hands-on experience with reading. Throughout the text readers encounter essays from books, magazines, and texts. They use this material to develop their critical thinking, reading, and vocabulary skills.

As always, Structured Reading offers a systematic, research-based approach for helping students improve their reading comprehension skills. Research in reading improvement consistently confirms that grade-point averages are raised significantly when instruction emphasizes the analytical and critical reading skills used in this book. Our approach in Structured Reading is grounded in psycholinguistic theory, based on the principle that readers improve not by reading about reading, but they learn best from guided, hands-on experience with the reading of complete selections.
