About this Item

This is a bound volume of 6 issues of "The Nineteenth Century" magazine - Vol. 23, January - June 1888. Among many other articles is this 20 page article by Thomas H. Huxley on pages 161-180 - February 1888. The book is bound without the original magazine covers or advertising. The binding is bright, period, 3/4 leather with a gilt decorated line on maroon cloth covers. The 6 compartment spine is bright and clean with heavy gilt decoration and with still bright and clean gilt lettering on a red leather label. The spine and covers have very good, unworn and unbumped edges. The covers are perfectly attached. The pages (iv, 944) are very clean, still crisp and are tightly bound. There are no ownership inscriptions or bookplates. The binder's label on the inner cover is: "Bedford & Ogle, Bookbinders, Worthing". The book measures 6-1/4 inches by 9-1/4 inches.
