8vo. Bound in uniform tree calf, gilt rules to spine compartments. Top edges stained red. Both boards to Volume I are detached and the spine label has eroded. Both volumes with scuff marks to boards, rubbed spine ends. Some foxing to prelims, occasional browning to pages, a few, only, small marginal tears and small nicks to to page edges. Vol I: [4, including the frontis chessboard engraving], xxxiv, 368, [1, blank]. Vol II: with red morocco gilt lettered title label to spine. Cracks along about a third to hinges of both boards. [1, blank]. iv, 373, [1, blank]. Bindings tight, a very good candidate for rebinding.
