J. Clegg defines this as the study of human variation, both of its causation, whether genetic or environmental, and of its importance in fitting the individual or population to its environment. There are chapters on genetics and on descriptive aspects of variability, a brief survey on human growth and senescence, with emphasis on growth at puberty. The book will be of interest to the general reader and in particular to students, and first year undergraduates in the biological sciences.
