About this title

Synopsis

This book contains the results of a series of tests conducted to determine the mortar-making qualities of Illinois sands commonly used in important cities throughout the state. The author provides a detailed discussion of the characteristics of sand, followed by an overview of the methods used in testing and interpreting the results. The author discusses various aspects of sand, including its composition, sharpness, cleanliness, fineness, and percentage of voids, and describes how each of these characteristics affects the strength of mortar. The book also presents numerical results of tests conducted on various sand samples, examining their tensile strength, sieve analysis, specific gravity, and weight. The author concludes by presenting specifications for No.1 and No.2 sand, as well as sand for pavement filler, providing valuable guidance for professionals in the field.
