About this title

Synopsis

This book's focus is on architectural design for libraries in the United States, and how these structures should accomodate the needs of both the attendees and the literature housed inside. It delves into design elements to account for maximum sunlight, efficient heating and ventilation, and safety from fire and dampness. The author, an architect, presents historical examples of libraries and their designs, and how, due to his experience, he arrived at the design that would become home to the Library of Congress. The author argues that the ideal library is one that can grow without having to resort to annexes or other expansions.
