The Summer of His Life

Step into the unforgettable summer of 1969, where adventure, heartbreak, and courage collide.

Twelve-year-old Mike expects a boring summer at a remote Michigan lake with his eccentric, elderly aunt and uncle. But the woods and water quickly become his kingdom, and days are filled with reckless joy and wild escapades alongside his fearless friends. They idolize Mike’s cousin—a Marine fighting in Vietnam—dreaming of glory and heroism.

Then the letter arrives: MIA.

And everything changes.

Suddenly, the games feel hollow. The world feels darker. But when Mike uncovers a disturbing truth about a neighbor’s secret past, he’s thrust into his own real-life test of courage. This summer will demand more than imagination. It will require real bravery—the kind that comes not from muscle or medals, but from standing up for what’s right.

Told through Mike’s raw, heartfelt journal and laced with tall tales, wild humor, and aching truths.

This coming-of-age story is a nostalgic love letter to a time and place when life was simpler—but no less profound.
