Growing up in a small Protestant church in a typical small town may sound quite dull to some folks, but most churches of this sort have plenty of character -- and characters -- to give them some excitement. If you've ever attended a church like this, you have probably encountered some people and situations just like the ones Don Reid describes in his humorous, sentimental, and very nostalgic book, Sunday Morning Memories. Don Reid, in his wonderfully witty and down-to-earth way: Runs the gamut of subjects from covered dish suppers to family pews to revivals to Vacation Bible School. Reminisces about stray radio signals coming through the PA system, using Sunday school money for purposes other than the collection plate, and skipping church on Sunday night to go to the movies. Reflects on candlelight services on Christmas Eve, Easter Sunrise services, weddings, and funerals. Reminds us to appreciate our church family, our different denominations, our church traditions, and our Lord.

Have you ever had the pleasure of sitting through a Sunday morning church service? If so, have you ever laughed on the inside while watching one of your church's characters? Ever known a fellow like Elmer Sensabaugh, who wasn't afraid to dispense some old-fashioned discipline? Remember when someone handed you a pair of cardboard sandals and a bathrobe for the Christmas pageant?
Don Reid, lead singer of the Statler Brothers, in the down-home style that made him a song-writing legend, is betting that you'll enjoy reminiscing about that country church you grew up in. Well, "betting" is a bad word; Miss Ora Hopkins wouldn't approve of gambling. Neither would Elmer.
The stories in this book are uniquely Don's, but they're also yours. You'll laugh at his storytelling while tracing the memories that weave through your own mind and heart. This collection of stories from a simpler time will be remembered for a long time to come.
- Makes great sermon illustrations
- All denominations can relate to these Christian human-interest stories!
- Points to the importance of the church as a part of family life
- This fond look back is packed with wisdom and life lessons
