Sunset Lessons

I am fascinated by the impact of natural phenomena on the human psyche. We are all connected--to each other, and to the infinite cosmos that is our home.

At times, I try to understand the science of these exquisite interactions. At times, I simply stand in awe, a humble observer.

This is a series of reflections on the power and impact of the setting sun, as seen through the filter of tremendous grief and emerging hope.

The work is dedicated with immeasurable gratitude to the life and legacy of my beautiful wife Karen, whose mortal journey ended prematurely during a spectacular sunrise and whose memory will forever be enshrined in the magical light of the setting sun.

Roddy Carter, MD, is an international master coach and performance expert. He brings his knowledge and insight from a distinguished career as a physician, scientist, and business leader to help others realize their full physical, mental, and emotional potential.

In his first book, BodyWHealth: Journey to Abundance, he makes this knowledge accessible to all seeking health, happiness, and prosperity. In his workshops and coaching for individuals, couples, and parents, he takes his clients beyond physical well-being. Using his deep mastery of applied neuroscience, Roddy guides his clients toward mastery of their own brains, removing intrinsic barriers to success. Through his work, he inspires enduring self-belief and hope from deep within. A natural educator, Roddy explains complex biology in simple metaphors. He combines incisive intellect with his healing touch and a warm, conversational tone to bring insight and encouragement to everyone who reads his work.

More importantly, Roddy has devoted his best efforts to being a committed husband and father.

Roddy composed this anthology of personal reflections after the death of his wife, Karen, following her courageous battle with cancer. In them, he describes his inspirational journey through grief to find fresh hope in the promise and power of the sun.

Although this work is inspired by an intensely private journey, Roddy has chosen to share it in the belief that his experience may nurture hope and courage in the hearts of others faced with the loss of a deeply cherished family member or friend. He offers these insights to the reader in the conviction that sharing hope appropriately honors the gifts of light and love that Karen brought to the world.
