Supervision for Success: A Self-Study Guide

For more than two decades, Jeff Bormaster has taught his three-day Supervision for Success® course to thousands of supervisors in hundreds of organizations nonprofit and for-profit, government and private sector using a research-based approach to supervising staff. The course of study has resulted in increased staff retention, higher productivity, improved morale, and improved client outcomes.

While thousands have completed the three-day course, there has been no standalone learning tool enabling supervisors to learn about supervision for success and the approaches it uses. Until now. Using Supervision for Success®: A Self-Study Guide, supervisors can acquire the knowledge, skills, and tools needed to become effective success-focused supervisors.

While not a replacement for the three-day supervised skills-training course, the self-study guide is a great complement and introduction to the classroom course and provides immediate and numerous insights and tools that can benefit supervisors at any level in an organization.

The self-study guide includes: a review of current research and workforce study findings by experts in the field and the basic principles of industrial psychology that form the foundation upon which Supervision for Success® has been built; a document toolkit that can be used in implementing Supervision for Success®; comprehensive readings and follow-up questions with answer keys; real-world explanations, examples, and applications; and recommendations for further study.

The study guide helps supervisors achieve a success-based focus that allows them to maximize their ability to be effective.

Jeff Bormaster is a California-licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW 15130) and a California-licensed Provider of Continuing Education (PCE 4433) with over 40 years of professional experience in human services and education. He provides consulting and training to public and private, nonprofit, and for-profit organizations in the areas of improving program and organizational performance, recruiting and retaining direct service staff, implementing Supervision for Success®, and maximizing of organizational success.

He also works with direct service staff in out-of-home care, helping them improve services, incorporate best practices, and increase outcome achievement.

He was the Senior Director for Special Projects and Training at the Child Welfare League of America (CWLA) for over a decade. Before working at CWLA, he worked for human services agencies providing a wide range of services including out-of-home care (group home, residential and foster care), family preservation services, outpatient mental health and substance abuse treatment, and adoption.

Jeff has multiple degrees from the University of Texas at Austin, including a Masters in Social Work and a Masters in Education Administration. He has taught at the university level and has published several books for helping professionals.

He began his career as a school teacher and school principal, and worked for the Texas Department of Education, providing school improvement services for over a decade.
