About this Item
Print. Etching. Image measures 11" x 16" This print, made after Edwin Forbes' original sketches, was published in 1876 as Plate 31 of 40 in Forbes' "The Life Studies of the Great Army." As the special artist for Frank Leslie's Illustrated Magazine, Forbes worked on assignment between 1862-1864, traveling with the Union Army capturing scenes of Civil War battlefields. In this plate, three covered wagons carrying supplies are pulled by six horses. A black wagoner is seen riding one of the horses, while another walks alongside to wagon, both men guiding the horses with whips. A white soldier is seen accompanying the first wagon. The print is in very good condition, with wide margins as issued. Some toning at edges, and minor wear to upper margin, not affecting the image. Seller Inventory # 305010
