Introducing the thoroughly revised and updated new edition of the only comprehensive work specifically for surgical technology. The book covers the principles, standards and ethics of surgical practice - to let readers know what to expect when they step into the operating room, and then what to do.
The first 18 chapters look at surgical technology as both a job and a profession. This section covers ethics, the law, identification of the different members of the health care team, the operating room layout, protection from infection, decontamination, preparation of the skin for surgery, identification of different instruments, and more.
Chapters 19-29 walk readers through the actual surgeries - defining them, summarizing the procedures, then detailing them more fully.
