Review
A murderous fiend is stalking London, killing ladies of some of the finest families. They call him the Lancer and of all his victims, only one survived. Gwendolen Marsh was the Lancer's third victim two years ago. Since her attack she has endured being stared at by strangers and ignored by her closest friends. Even her fiance, Lloyed Waterston shuns her. Physically, she has only a scar to show for her ordeal. Emotionally, the scars go much deeper and all she wants to do is forget. She doesn't remember the events of that night, but the pain is just as strong and just as damaging. When Gwen's close friend Byran Corstairs shows up on her doorstep with Taylor Stafford, she can't believe what they propose. Taylor's wife Connie was one of the Lancer's victims and he wants Gwen to help him find the killer. Gwen refuses-- how can she help him when she can't remember anything?-- but she feels a connection to Taylor that she hasn't felt with anyone. He doesn't stare at her as if she is a freak, he understands the pain she has suffered. Still, she refuses to help him. While suffering with pneumonia, Gwen finds herself recuperating at Taylor's home. She is captivated by his young son, Danny and soon she finds herself falling in love with Taylor. But Taylor cannot forget his dead wife and the mission he is on to find her killer. He is attracted to Gwen but feels like he is betraying Connie. Gwen finds out too late that Taylor is only using her to get what he wants-- but even then, she can't stop loving him. Somehow, she must convince him of her love. Gwen and Taylor are brought together at first by a desperate need to unmask a murderer, but Taylor will have to put the past behind him before he can accept the love that Gwen offers.
