Eleven-year-old Ashley Woods is excited to go to middle school, where she believes all of her dreams will come true. When she gets there, though, she immediately sees a problem: At lunchtime, kids only sit with other kids of the same race! To make matters worse, Ashley's cousin, who she doesn't like, is coming to live with her. Ashley is willing to ignore these problems at first so that she can make it through the school year.
