Synopsis
This is the first edition of a proposed two-part book covering the story of a 60 year old man, John, whose wife Sue walks out on him after a 30 year marriage. What follows is the worst two years of John's life, where one minute John is happily married, and settled in retirement with a wife he adores, the next he is subjected to an expensive legal battle, unscrupulous solicitors and police harassment, all in the name of the UK family law system. As his mental health deteriorates, he makes the decision to represent himself and learns much about how the UK family law systems works and, in context of his story, explains the legal terminology and process.Based on real-life experience of UK divorce, “Surviving a Two-Year Nightmare” puts each part of the divorce process into the context of John’s story; his triumphs, his mistakes, the effects on his emotional and mental health and the effects on his family and friendships. The book explains legal jargon and provides a self-help guide to those who may be considering representing themselves, rather than engaging a solicitor. For those choosing to engage a solicitor to represent them through the divorce process, this book provides the reader with a better understanding of the legal process of divorce and some of the terminology (legalese) that is used.By more clearly understanding the process of divorce, it may help put someone experiencing divorce “in the driving seat”, rather than blindly following a solicitor’s directions, potentially saving thousands in legal costs. This edition comprises Part 1 of John's story and looks specifically at Police Harassment Warnings and Non-Molestation Orders together with the associated issues and legal terminology. The second edition of the book, due in early 2019, will include Part 2, and will go into the divorce process itself, including the financial settlement.
