Sustaining the Nation: The Making and Moving of Language and Nation (Oxford Studies in Sociolinguistics)

An ethnographic investigation of language, nationalism, mobility and political economy
set across francophone Canada. The book examines how social difference-race, ethnicity, language, gender-has been used to sort out who must (or can) be mobile and who must (or can) remain in place in the organization of global circulation of human and natural resources.

Monica Heller is Professor at Ontario Institute for Studies in Education and Department of Anthropology at Univeristy of Toronto. She is also the president of the American Anthropological Association.

Lindsay A. Bell is Visiting Assistant Professor of Anthropology at SUNY, Oswego.

Michelle Daveluy is Professor of Anthropology at Université Laval.

Mireille McLaughlin is Associate Professor of Sociology and Anthropology at University of Ottawa.
