Set in the summer of 1929 in the Lake District, the book introduces the main characters of John, Susan, Titty and Roger Walker (Swallows); as well as Nancy and Peggy Blackett (Amazons). The story relates the outdoor adventures and play of these two families of children. Swallowdale, the second book in the series. Featuring the Walker siblings (The Swallows) and Blackett sisters (The Amazons), camping in the hills and moorland country around a lake, with Maria Turner, the Blacketts' Great Aunt, acting as an antagonist. Peter Duck, the third book in the series. The Swallows and Amazons sail to Crab Island with Captain Flint and Peter Duck, an old sailor, to recover buried treasure. Featuring an altercation with pirates also intending to recover the treasure. Pigeon Post, the sixth book in the series. The Swallows, Amazons and Ds are camping in the Blackett family's garden at Beckfoot. Slater Bob, an old slate miner, tells them a story about a lost gold vein in the fells. We Didn't Mean to Go to Sea, the seventh book in the series. The Swallows are staying with their mother and baby sister Bridget in a new location, Pin Mill on the River Orwell. They are in Suffolk to meet their Father, Navy Commander Ted Walker who is returning overland from a posting in Hong Kong. The Picts and the Martyrs, the eleventh book in the series. The Ds have been invited to stay at Beckfoot at the start of the summer holidays. When Great Aunt Maria finds out that the Blackett girls have been left at home, she decides to come and take care of them all. In the original full green cloth binding. Externally, excellent. Original unclipped dust wrappers are very smart with light sunning to the spines and the odd small mark. Original paper covered slip case is also very smart with light wear and the odd small mark. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright and clean throughout. Fine.
