Collated, complete.Volume II illustrated with a vignette title page, and twenty-eight plates. Collated, complete.Described by John M. Leighton.With remarks on the scenery of the Highlands by Professor Wilson.Illustrated by various artists, engraved by Joseph Swan. In the original cloth binding. Externally, generally smart, with some marks to the boards and spines. Light bumping to the spines and extremities. Spines are a little faded. Small bump to the head of the spine of Volume I. Front hinge of Volume I is starting but firm. Prior owner's ink inscription to the verso to the front free endpaper of Volume I. Internally, binding is strained in places. Pages are bright and generally clean with some spots. Vignette title of Volume I is working loose. Faint tide mark to the vignette title of Volume I. Small patch of worming to the gutter of pages 61 to 70 of Volume I. Vignette title of Volume II is working loose. Prior owner's ink note to page 129 of Volume II. Some pages uncut to the top edge of Volume II. Plate of Loch Leven & Castle and Loch Awe & Kilchurn Castle in Volume II detached but present. Suitable for rebinding. Good Only. Reproductions of six engravings of paintings depicting the lochs with descriptive text. This is one of a county series of books depicting Scottish lakes published monthly in the 1830s, although this copy does not appear to have a publication date. The hardcover binding shows signs of wear / handling externally and the binding is loose. The title page has become detached but is still present. Some foxing throughout. Very attractively bound in half green morocco, marbled sides, the spine with raised bands, lettering direct, gilt ornaments in compartments. Hinges and joints sound. There is some spotting and browning throughout, as is often with this work, but beautifully bound and overall a G-VG copy.
