A handbill version of "The Swearer's Prayer" by William Rust (d.1827), a cautionary tract published several times between 1812 and the 1820s for distribution among the public: "[The swearer] prayest, first, that thou mayest be deprived of eternal happiness! Secondly, that thou mayest be plunged into eternal misery! . Swearer! Canst thou ever again blaspheme such a God and Saviour as this? Does not thy conscience cry--God Forbid? Even so, Amen." This handbill is no. 5 in a series of 36 handbills distributed by the American Tract Society cautioning against sin and advocating for temperance and prayer. Measures 6.75" by 4", verso blank, typographical border. Good. Toned with some staining, dust soiling, open tear to left-hand margin (approx. 1.75" by 0.5" loss, not touching text).
