Hardcover, with dust jacket. Dark green cloth over boards with gold lettering to the spine. Toned white dust jacket with black and white illustrations and red and black lettering. Dated 1961 on the copyright page. No date on the title page. 364 pages, including the index. Good condition. Binding is strong and square. Very light bumping to the foot of the spine. Free of other wear. Pages lightly toned. Page edges foxed. A previous owner's name written in neat pen at the head of the front free endpaper- no other marks or writing to be found. Dust jacket is toned and lightly foxed. Some wear around the edges of the jacket, but no tears or large creases. Overall good condition. This book is from the collection of Thomas Lovejoy. Dr. Lovejoy was an influential ecologist, field biologist, and activist; former head of the Amazon Biodiversity Center, World Wildlife Fund, and advisor to the United Nations and Smithsonian Institution. He is credited with introducing the term ‘biological diversity’ to the mainstream environmental movement. In addition, he was a passionate collector of books on the natural world.
