A Libanus Press treatment of Plato’s classic dialogue. Of the Tom Griffith (dates unknown) translation, Berkeley classicist G. R. F. Ferrari has stated, "Much the best translation of the 'Symposium' that I have ever read. In his ambition to avoid 'translator's English' Griffith has been completely successful. Nor has he sacrificed accuracy, even where he sacrifices literalness." Folio [142] pp. Quarter dark blue morocco, pale blue patterned cloth boards. Spine title gilt. Top edge gilt, others untrimmed. Dark blue endpapers. Spine slightly faded. Housed in original grey slipcase, with faint blue and red print offsetting to one side. Very good +. One of 355 copies. Peter Forster (1934–2021) was an English wood engraver known for his work with The Folio Society, in addition to various UK news outlets. In 2005 he designed a two pound coin for the royal mint in recognition of the 400th anniversary of the Gunpowder Plot.
