Synergetics

Step into the Wondrous Universe of R. Buckminster Fuller's Classic Synergetics

Synergetics is Fuller's most important and most readable book . . . . Fuller is writing for the general public and he gets down to earth . . . . I predict that it will become one of the classics of science along with Darwin's The Origin of the Species.'' -Samuel Eliot Morison

"This book is his bible-the distilled wisdom of a lifetime spent contemplating the Universe from angles and directions never before suspected.... Its wealth of closely packed ideas is inexhaustible. It will be a source of endless inspiration and stimulus to those engaged in the most urgent task of our time-the effort to save Spaceship Earth from disaster." -Arthur C. Clarke, author of 2001: A Space Odyssey

"He has put it all together-his eternal sense of wonder and his gift of being able to look around him as though everything was being seen for the first time." -Norman Cousins, Saturday Review

"Synergetics will surely go down as one of the memorable works of the decade." -Alvin Toffler, author of Future Shock

Combining geometric logic with everyday objects of the human environment, Buckminster Fuller invites readers to join him on an inspired exploration of a four-dimensional Universe, where such concepts as Einstein's relativity, entropy, and the meaning of existence weave into an understandable and meaningful whole. This Universe is dynamic and magnetic, piquing an inexhaustible curiosity. Fuller's advice to us: "Dare to be naïve. Please do not refrain from reading this book because you have become suspicious that a comprehensive inventory of discovery precludes further discovery. It is one of our most exciting discoveries that local discovery leads to a complex of further discoveries."

This book is also available from Echo Point Books as a hardcover (ISBN 1648371795).

R. Buckminster Fuller (1895-1983) was an architect, engineer, geometrician, cartographer, philosopher, futurist, inventor of the geodesic dome, and one of the most brilliant thinkers of his time. Fuller was renowned for his comprehensive perspective on the world's problems and his pioneering solutions reflecting his commitment to innovative design science that does "more with less" and thereby improves human lives. The author of nearly 30 books, he spent much of his life traveling the world lecturing and discussing his ideas with thousands of audiences. In 1983, shortly before his death, he received the U.S. Presidential Medal of Freedom, the nation's highest civilian honor. The 1996 Nobel Prize in Chemistry was awarded for the discovery of a carbon molecule with the structure of a geodesic dome and was named " buckminsterfullerene"-now commonly referred to in the scientific community as the buckyball.
