A Synopsis of Lectures on Medical Science

A Synopsis Of Lectures On Medical Science by Alva Curtis. This mid-19th?century reformist treatise lays out a physio?medical program that treats disease as a morbid imbalance of nervous action and circulation. It presents a Genus/Species nosology organized around the nervous system and structures a unified therapeutic toolkit based on relaxation, cleansing, stimulation, and tonics. Diseases are classified into First, Second, Third, and Fourth Series—from disorders of voluntary muscle and senses to mental states and memory—each treated with baths, nervines, electromagnetism, enemas, diet, and plant remedies. A core aim is to replace bleeding, mercury, and other toxic practices with non?poisonous methods that support surface drainage, warmth, and balanced action. The book also covers bones and teeth disorders, abdominal and connective?tissue issues, and an extensive toxicology section, all delivered in an instructional voice for reform?minded physicians and students within the Physio?Medical movement. Practical case sketches and plant?based materia medica anchor its hands?on pedagogy and institutional goals.
