Nicely rebound with gilt-embossed, black pebble cloth; new endpapers. Some light foxing within the text and on the plates. Very RARE copy of this mid-19th century text on operative surgery, this being Volume II of the two-volume work. "With a bibliographical index and historical record of many of their operations, during a period of two hundred and thirty-four years" - an important work in the history of American surgery and medicine. This 2nd edition is "with numerous additions in both the text and illustrations". Illustrated with 43 plates, each containing 4 to 12+ figures of "engravings on steel". 488 pages.
