Tight binding. Leather boards have heavy wear and scuffing, small pieces missing from spine, corners and edges worn through in spots, both boards bowed outwards. Water stains along spine and margins throughout, moderate foxing and soiling, top corner torn from second endpaper. Lengthy gift inscription on ffep dated 1981, previous owner name on ffep and pencil note on page 575, dated 1868 and 1873 respectively. Translated from the German with additional notes and observations by John F. South. 942 pages including index.
